Currently, Herb leads the Adult Learning Center, and is dedicated to helping adults improve their lives through education. He uses his talents in programming, academics and nonprofit management to keep the Adult Learning Center, both programmatically and fiscally, one of Milwaukee's strongest adult educational entities. He continues the strong leadership tradition that has produced over 220 GED graduates in their 30 year history.
Born in the city of Detroit, Michigan, Herb attended Detroit Public Schools until high school. He attended the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, graduating in 1980, and then went to Fisk University in Nashville, TN. He graduated with a BA in Economics/Management with a minor in Communications in 1984.
Herb started his professional career with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan. An opportunity became available for a promotion with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. Although he and his wife knew no one in Milwaukee, they took the leap of faith and moved here. Following eight years with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Detroit and Milwaukee, he became a middle school teacher with Milwaukee Public Schools at Grand Avenue Middle School. Subsequently, after five years of teaching, he went to the YMCA of Greater Milwaukee as a Branch Executive in the Parklawn Branch YMCA.
He has been an active member of Providence Baptist Church for over 10 years, assisting with the youth ministry, vacation bible school, PBC couples ministry, while attending various conferences and seminars to further his Christian walk.
He and his beautiful wife Felicia have been married over 22 years. He is a proud father of two Briana and Warren. He enjoys traveling with his family, attending sporting events (Detroit teams of course), playing golf and honing his culinary skills.
While in Milwaukee, Herb has always been in a position to help youth and adults. "I believe that you will be rich in life the more you enrich other's lives," states Hayden.
